Or you can also ask your trip organizer to get you there. Ask to do an optional side trip to explore Labuan Bajo and they will help you get the transportation and guide that you will need. Unfortunately, there’s an entry fee for accessing the waterfall. Tourists must pay around IDR 30-50 thousand in order to get close to the waterfall area. This is actually normal in Indonesia, but it might be an inconvenience for those who didn’t use to pay just to go to the waterfall, like the foreigners.

Aside from that, Cunca Wulang is a great spot for waterfall enthusiasts. The waterfall is between two cliffs that cracked open thousands of years ago. The space between the two cliffs is quite narrow so the guide usually warns you to be careful before going down.

Tourists can freely swim here. The water is still clear and clean, suitable for swimming to your heart content. You can even jump from the cliff to the water if you are brave enough. There are several spots in the cliff where you can safely jump and land in the water below. But do it at your own risk because the height is quite tall and no guide is willing to take responsibility.

The Danger

On rainy days, Cunca Wulang is not advisable to visit. This is because the water level is going to rise and the stream becomes faster, making it dangerous to be in the water. Even if you visit when the weather is clear, the guide usually checks the water first to make sure that it’s safe because recent rain might still leave the water rough.

Not only the rain does affect the waterfall, but it also makes the road trip to be even harder. The dirt on the land road is going to be wet and muddy, making it slippery and difficult to pass either with vehicles or on foot. There are also plenty of sharp rocks that can be fatal if someone slips on it, so make sure you visit the area on a sunny day.
