Many people have different opinions regarding to the efficiency of remote work. Some argue that it doesn’t truly affect workforce. It is such a challenge for business leaders to create a plan to adapt to the challenges brought by remote work.

One of the most important but often overlooked by business leader is the emotional element. It is important aspect in workforce especially during this remote environment. Open communication is harder to do since the need of social distancing. However, emotional component can help you understand what is going on with your team. 

The solution to it is open and honest conversation. However, you won’t be able to start this kind of conversation if you don’t read the warning signs things first. In-person interaction allows you to read gestures, body language, or just general mood of your team and use them as warning signs if there are something off that you see or feel. During remote work, you can still read the warning signs by paying attention to your team’s behavior, how they respond, their enthusiasm, etc. 

Open your mind to continue adapt to the situation. It is definite that the pandemic will definitely stop sooner or later. However, do not seek for a button to take yourself back in the time before the it happened. It is highly unlikely that things will get back to how it was used to be prior the pandemic. Some changes will remain. Therefore, it is always best to find and master new management models. Highly automated activities will continue to be part of your daily work. 

It is possible that there are some of your team members who refuse to work at the office after the pandemic ends. Those are the ones that have experienced the efficiency of working from home and the benefits of it. Instead of giving them ultimatum, why not compromise and consider a win-win solution so when the time to return to the office comes, the issue has the right solution already.

Therefore, do not assume that remote work will decrease efficiency in the workforce. With the right system management, your team can stay optimally productive and fulfill their roles respectfully. Do not be afraid of making mistakes by the decision you make regarding to the circumstance because we all are still learning. There is no book to guide step by step on how to overcome this situation so always do your best during this uncertainty.
